The Colombian government removed its ban on U.S. beef originating from states with detections of avian influenza in dairy cows. The country banned beef from a total of 14 states: California, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas and Wyoming.
“Prior to the restrictions imposed in April, Colombia was a promising market averaging about $3 million per month in U.S. beef purchases,” said U.S. Meat Export Federation President and CEO Dan Halstrom in a statement. “In July—the most recent month for which data is available—exports fell to less than $850,000.”
