CO secures 15 more wolves from Tribes

One concern about reintroducing wolves to Colorado is the relatively high and dense human population and low availability of wild space in Colorado compared to other Rocky Mountain states. Here

CPW plans to capture wolves on tribal lands from December 2024 through March 2025.

“This agreement helps CPW to continue to meet our unanimously adopted Colorado Wolf Restoration and Management Plan goal of translocating 10-15 gray wolves per capture season for a total of 30-50 wolves,” said CPW Director Jeff Davis.

The agency said the Tribes will help identify target packs, avoiding packs with known active chronic depredation behavior.

CPW released 10 gray wolves onto public lands in Summit and Grand counties in mid-December. CPW has been tracking the wolves for the past month and published a map that shows where the wolves have been, which can be viewed at cpw.info/3vQDKkP.
