Colorado Parks and Wildlife released five gray wolves onto public land in Grand County

Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) concluded on Jan. 18 its second round of gray wolf releases in the state.

Over the course of six days, seven male and eight female wolves were captured in British Columbia, Canada and released in Colorado’s Eagle and Pitkin counties. The agency also released five wolves from the original Copper Creek Pack. No further releases are planned for the 2024-25 capture season, but there are three to five more remaining release seasons.

“Because of the safety risk and security needs of our staff and the animals, CPW did not share wolf release details while the operation was underway,” the agency said.

CPW reiterated that captured wolves did not overlap with areas where livestock was present.
