Colorado Advocates for Smart Wolf Policy will again circulate petitions for a statewide initiative to end wolf reintroductions in Colorado.
The group introduced an initiative earlier this year to put a measure on the 2026 ballot, but announced in August that it was pausing its efforts. The group began the ballot title setting process again on Sept. 12 and will circulate petitions to place a measure on the November 2026 ballot to end gray wolf reintroductions by Dec. 31, 2026.
The proposed statutory change alters Colorado law to require that while the state continues its current reintroduction efforts, all further wolf importations must stop by the end of 2026. Colorado agriculture groups have called on the group over the year to halt its petition efforts, saying the measure is at odds with the strategy and policy outcomes the groups are working on.
