A recent factsheet by Canada Beef highlights the moderate red meat consumption in the nation, with Canadians averaging 288 grams (10.15 ounces) of unprocessed red meat weekly, less than Mediterranean countries and the global average.
Despite declining beef consumption over the past 50 years, according to Statistics Canada, the nation’s obesity rates have tripled. The factsheet continues that red meat, including beef, is a nutrient-rich source of protein and essential vitamins, which many Canadians lack due to diets high in ultra-processed foods.
The factsheet points out that studies link moderate unprocessed red meat intake to better health outcomes, emphasizing its role in balanced diets. Canada Beef said promoting nutrient-dense foods like beef may help address dietary gaps and improve overall health.
