The company’s first U.S. commercial-scale production facility is planned at 200,000 square feet, with possible expansion in the future.

Cultivated meat startup company Believer Meats was sued by a construction firm over an alleged $34 million in unpaid bills for the construction of its North Carolina production plant.

The construction of the company’s 200,000-square-foot cultivated meat production facility in Wilson, NC, was completed in July. Gray Construction filed suit against the startup in December, alleging the company failed to pay amounts owed for design and construction, according to a Meatingplace report.

Court documents show the companies entered into a forbearance and release agreement in October, in which Believer Meats agreed to pay $22 million by Dec. 5 with the remaining $12 million to be paid in 2026. Gray Construction claims the startup failed to make payment by the Dec. 5 deadline.
