A trio of consumers and an animal activist group are suing Whole Foods, claiming the company falsely advertised beef with its slogan of “No Antibiotics, Ever.”
Nonprofit organization Farm Forward said it began testing meat products at Whole Foods for antibiotic residues, and they found drug residues in meat products marketed as “antibiotic-free,” Animal Welfare Approved and USDA organic.
In a post asking for signatures on its website, the group wrote, “For decades, the meat industry, aided by companies like Whole Foods, has used humanewashing tactics to trick consumers into paying premiums for factory-farmed meat.”
Farm Forward calls on Whole Foods to end its “humanewashing,” and “if it’s factory farmed, label it factory farmed.” The group says if the retail chain “can’t live up to its promises to consumers, it should take factory-farmed products off its shelves.”
