Beef Bits: Walmart Canada increases sustainable beef

Walmart Canada plans to purchase an additional 1 million pounds of beef from certified sustainable Canadian farms and ranches.

Last October, the company committed to purchase 1.5 million lbs. In May 2021, Walmart Canada became the first retailer in the country to offer an on-pack Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef claim in a line of beef products, the company said in a press release.

“As we continue on our journey to becoming a regenerative company, we’re always looking for opportunities to provide our customers with options that are better for the planet,” said Rob Pereira, senior director of merchandising for meat and seafood at Walmart Canada. “Increasing our commitment to sourcing beef from certified sustainable Canadian farms and ranches along with adopting fully recyclable packaging for our ground beef are changes we’re really proud of.”
