USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service is proposing changes to the Organic Livestock and Poultry Standards to add new provisions for livestock handling and transport for slaughter and to expand and clarify existing requirements covering livestock care and production practices.

The rule would change USDA organic regulations to promote a fairer and more competitive market for organic producers by making sure that certified USDA livestock products are produced to the same consistent standard, the agency said in a statement. When finalized, the agency’s National Organic Program will oversee the rule’s implementation.

To access the docket and comment by Oct. 11, interested parties can go to www.regulations.gov and search for docket number AMS-NOP-21-0073.
