The UK has been in trade talk mode ever since its secession from the European Union (EU). The nation has been anxious to secure post-Brexit trade deals, but has yet to come to an agreement with the U.S.
The Trump administration has insisted agricultural goods be a part of any free-trade agreement, but the UK’s strict food standards have prohibited certain products from being included in a deal. This includes hormone-treated beef and chlorinated chicken.
However, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has indicated he may be willing to drop the ban after the UK is released from current EU trade rules in 2021. Several large UK supermarket chains have said they will not stock the products even if they are approved, citing lack of consumer trust.
