According to data released from the USDA, China has purchased a record amount of U.S. beef. China bought 3,315 tons of U.S. beef in the week ended Aug. 20, the largest weekly purchase in records dating back to 1999.
The USDA also reported that purchases of pork and corn were up in the last month, with China purchasing 11,216 tons of pork and 747,000 tons of corn for shipment in the 2020-21 season. The purchases come after China and the U.S. had a telephone conference regarding the Phase One deal’s progress.
The U.S. Census Trade data reports that China has purchased a total of $7.274 billion in the first half of this year, well below the $36.5 billion in annual purchases promised in the trade deal.
