The North American Meat Institute (NAMI) and the Food Industry Association (FMI) released the 17th annual Power of Meat report on shopper habits, showing meat sales higher than pre-pandemic levels.
The report shows sales were up 3.9 percent for all meat, despite fewer visits to the meat department. Fresh beef volume increased nearly 5 percent since 2019, and fresh lamb sales rose nearly 20 percent.
“The Meat Institute and partners in the Protein PACT for the People, Animals and Climate of Tomorrow will continue to deliver information and innovation for the 98.5 percent of American households that purchase meat, continuously working to support healthy families, healthy communities, healthy animals and a healthy planet,” said Julie Anna Potts, president and CEO of NAMI.
More consumers shopped online than ever, with 61 percent of meat consumers shopping online and 46 percent shopping online regularly. The report found nearly 80 percent prepare meals at home, and 51 percent find inspiration for preparing meals online.
