Miles Community College and Montana Farm Bureau (MFBF) have teamed up to develop a meat processing certification program.
“MFBF has been in discussions with the Montana Meat Processors Association and ascertained that there was no training available for meat cutters either through private programs nor the university system,” said MFBF Executive Vice President John Youngberg. “MFBF has been working with Miles Community College and the Board of Regents on a program that could be implemented to alleviate that situation.”
In the program, students are able to complete their core classes while also doing rotating internships at different processing plants. The long-term goal of the program is to offer a two-year degree focused on the business end of running a small processing facility.
