According to a report released by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, global food prices rose for the third consecutive month in August.
The FAO Food Price Index, which tracks the international prices of the most commonly traded food commodities, was up 2 percent from the previous month, reaching its highest level since February 2020. Of the commodities the FAO tracks, prices were higher in cereals, sugar, dairy and vegetable oil.
The FAO Meat Price Index was also almost unchanged since July, although it was down 8.9 percent from August 2019.
