Beef Bits Brief: Caviness Beef receives incentive

Caviness to expand Hereford plant

The Amarillo City Council in Texas approved an economic incentive for the nearly complete processing facility expansion of Caviness Beef Packers Ltd. in late February.

The agreement allows the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) to provide $10,000 per position created, up to $1 million. The agreement would enable Caviness to hire an additional 100 full-time employees over three years and increase the company’s payroll by approximately $4.5 million annually.

The $60 million new processing facility is expected to be completed in spring and will replace the company’s existing facility, doubling production.

“Caviness has always called the Texas Panhandle home, and we’re eager to continue building on that success,” said Trevor Caviness, president of Caviness Beef Packers, in a statement. “We very much appreciate the (AEDC’s) mission of helping attract business growth in the region.”

Caviness also has a facility in Hereford, TX, built in 2005, which just recently added 130,000 square feet of plant additions and added a second shift of operations.
