Beef Bits Brief: CA jerky factory closes

Tyson Foods has sold its Golden Island Jerky Co. brand to Link Snacks.

The Rancho Cucamonga factory was closed in mid-December, which laid off around 370 people.

According to the Orange County Register, neither Tyson nor Link Snacks has plans to offer jobs to the workers, and the workers will be paid until mid-February.

“The decision to sell the business was a very difficult one,” Tyson spokesman Worth Sparkman told a news source in an email.

“It’s important to know it was based on a combination of factors including our ability to generate profitable growth in the business and our need to focus on, and invest in, strategic growth priorities where we are competitively advantaged.”

Production of the jerky will be moved to Alpena, SD.
