More than 31,000 pounds of beef roasts were destroyed after two semis collided in northeastern South Dakota Aug. 25, according to a report in Minnesota’s St. Paul Pioneer Press.
The trucks, including a 2002 Freightliner hauling the boxed beef, collided in foggy conditions early that morning. The beef was being transported from an Aberdeen, SD, facility and the huge boxes slid out of the semi-trailer, which ended up on its side, according to Tony Mangan, public information officer for the South Dakota Highway Patrol and state Department of Public Safety.
The driver of the truck hauling the beef suffered minor injuries. The other driver who was hauling paper products was not injured. The spilled beef was hauled to a landfill for disposal.
