Discount grocery outlet chain Aldi has announced a traceability program for its Specially Selected Scotch Aberdeen Angus beef brand.
The company will be working with Identigen, an Ireland-based company providing DNA-based analysis, that will allow Aldi to trace every piece of beef in the Scotch Aberdeen Angus brand to be traced back to the animal.
“We understand that product transparency is becoming more important to consumers, and after listening to our customers, we are extremely pleased to introduce full traceability to our Specially Selected Scotch Aberdeen Angus beef range,” said Aldi Scotland group Buying Director Graham Nicolson.
Identigen has also worked with Tyson Fresh Meats to improve traceability in its natural beef Open Prairie Angus beef brand, which is sourced from independent ranchers in the U.S.
