Novameat is attempting to revolutionize the food industry.

The Barcelona, Spain-based startup’s leader, Giuseppe Scionti, has a background in biomedical engineering.

This led him to research a way to 3D print products replicating plant-based meat.

The company first produced a plant-based beefsteak in 2018 and plans to develop more meats such as chicken breasts.

The technology mimics the texture, appearance, nutrition, and sensory aspects found in traditional meat products.

Other alternative-protein companies have developed products mimicking ground beef, but steak is a more difficult product to imitate with its complex muscle fibers.

Novameat is looking to solve that replication.

“I discovered a way to bio-hack the structure of the native 3D matrix of a variety of plant-based proteins to achieve a meaty texture,” Scionti said in a statement.

The company also believes it can reduce the cost of higher-end protein like steaks, due to a possibility to easily mass produce plant-based 3D products.
