Awards Arena: CO Leopold finalists selected

Three finalists have been selected for the 2020 Colorado Leopold Conservation Award.

The award recognizes ranchers, farmers and foresters, who inspire others with their stewardship efforts.

In Colorado, the award is $10,000 and is presented by the Sand County Foundation, Colorado Cattlemen’s Association (CCA), Colorado Cattlemen’s Agricultural Land Trust, Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.

The following are the three finalists: Toby and Amy Johnson of Collins Ranch in Kit Carson—cattle ranchers who implemented a grazing system focused on grass and soil health; the Klinglesmith family of LK Ranch in Meeker—ranchers who implemented new grazing management, fencing and watering systems; and Dallas May and family of May Ranch in Lamar; cattle ranchers utilizing third-party verifications to measure conservation success. The winner will be announced in April and a formal presentation will take place June 15 at the CCA’s annual convention.
