Autopsies pending after ND cattle deaths

Cattle graze in a pasture on Banamacc Farms in Calhoun County

Autopsies remain pending at North Dakota State University’s (NDSU) Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory following the unexplained deaths of 19 cattle near Keene, ND, in late November, the McKenzie County Farmer reported.

The cattle, owned by Lance Sorenson, were found about 1.5 miles north of Keene along a creek line, prompting an investigation. Sorenson submitted the animals to NDSU for full diagnostic testing to determine the cause of death. McKenzie County Emergency Services Manager Karolin Jappe said results are expected soon and emphasized that investigators have not identified a cause and that there is currently no factual evidence linking the deaths to any specific company, operation or pipeline in the area.
