Tech tycoon Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled his latest venture: transforming the beef industry.
The Meta CEO disclosed on Facebook and Instagram that he is venturing into cattle farming on his Kauai ranch in Hawaii.
“Started raising cattle at Ko’olau Ranch on Kauai, and my goal is to create some of the highest quality beef in the world,” Zuckerberg said in the post. “The cattle are Wagyu and Angus, and they’ll grow up eating macadamia meal and drinking beer that we grow and produce here on the ranch.”
The cattle will be fed 5,000-10,000 pounds of nuts annually, requiring vast acres of macadamia trees. The project aims to be local and vertically integrated. Zuckerberg expressed his enthusiasm for the endeavor, calling it the “most delicious” among his various pursuits. Environmentalists have derided Zuckerberg for the venture.
“Raising cattle on water-intensive macadamia nuts and beer is just a billionaire’s strange sideshow,” Mitch Jones, Food and Water Watch policy director, told the Guardian.
