The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) confirmed Deschutes County’s first wolf-related livestock kill this year.
On March 17, biologists determined that a transient lone wolf killed a 3-day-old calf on a 1,500-acre public land pasture near Brothers, OR, according to the Bend Bulletin. The calf likely died about six hours before the investigation. The wolf had been monitored across multiple counties for months.
While the rancher’s name is not disclosed, compensation for the full market value of the calf is expected, with payments typically issued at year’s end, according to ODFW biologist Aaron Bott.
