Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) Director Kelly Susewind accepted staff recommendations on May 22 to initiate an evaluation period rather than authorize the lethal removal of wolves from the Sherman Pack in Ferry County.
This decision follows recent livestock depredations of one calf killed and three injured. WDFW officers are investigating the shooting of an adult male wolf by a producer defending his herd, and range riders are being deployed. The evaluation will determine the pack’s future behavior and necessary management steps.
