The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) on Aug. 25 authorized incremental lethal removal of wolves from the Sherman Pack in Ferry County after repeated livestock depredations.
Director Kelly Susewind approved the decision following four confirmed depredation events in less than 30 days, including three dead calves and two probable injuries. The affected livestock producer had already implemented multiple non-lethal deterrents, including daily range riding, carcass removal and calving away from wolf activity areas. WDFW staff concluded that no additional non-lethal tools would be effective due to the size of the grazing allotments.
The removal is authorized through Sept. 4, with possible extension if further depredations occur.
