USDA announced a Shared Stewardship memorandum of understanding between the U.S. Forest Service and Montana, signed by Forest Service Chief Tom Schultz and Gov. Greg Gianforte (R).
The agreement strengthens collaboration to accelerate forest restoration, reduce wildfire risk and support sustainable timber production. Initial efforts will focus on 200,000 acres in northwest Montana, with the U.S. Forest Service and Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation working jointly on large-scale projects.
Gianforte praised the Trump administration’s renewed focus on state partnerships, calling the agreement a significant step toward healthier forests, safer communities and stronger local economies.
