USDA Wildlife Services lethally removed a gray wolf from Colorado in Wyoming in mid-March after the wolf was determined to have killed five sheep.
The wolf was confirmed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) as one of the male wolves recently translocated to Colorado from British Columbia. The agency said it does not comment on wildlife movements, operations or regulations in other states, but noted, “Wolves are known to travel long distances to find food or mates, including into other states.”
Wolves are protected in Colorado but are not covered under the Endangered Species Act in Wyoming, which allows wolves to be killed without a permit in its “predatory animal area” in the south and east portions of the state.
