On Dec. 11, USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins wrote to California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), demanding the state abandon a proposal to redistribute agricultural land based on race, ethnicity and national origin.
In November, the California Agricultural Land Equity Task Force released a 127-page draft of proposed recommendations on how to equitably increase access for minority farmers and Tribes.
“Hardworking farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers all deserve a shot at the American dream and they should not be stigmatized, demeaned, or shut out of opportunities because of their race, sex, ethnicity, or national origin,” Rollins wrote. “If California persists, expect immediate legal action to protect American citizens from California’s unlawful actions.”
