Understanding the true cost of production is critical for making sound decisions in today’s cattle industry. The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s (UNL) Center for Agricultural Profitability has added a livestock module to its Agricultural Budget Calculator (ABC), giving producers a tool to build detailed enterprise budgets.
The program allows producers to input production numbers, feeding programs and labor costs to calculate breakeven prices, returns and side-by-side comparisons such as retaining or selling calves. Free and web-based, ABC now supports both crop and cattle enterprises, helping producers improve decision-making, management and communication with lenders. The tool is available at agbudget.unl.edu.
