At the 2024 United Nations (U.N.) Climate Change Conference, the True Animal Protein Price (TAPP) Coalition urged countries to begin taxing meat to reduce “animal protein overconsumption” and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
The coalition called countries such as the U.S., Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom “laggards” in adopting food pricing policies as the European Union Commission has done.
The U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization released a report on Nov. 8 that weighed the impact of introducing taxes on certain foods, including meat.
