Tyson sued over ‘climate-smart’ claims

The Environmental Working Group filed suit against Tyson Foods, claiming the company has made false marketing claims regarding “climate-smart” beef.

The lawsuit alleges Tyson’s claims that its meat production operations will reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 are false or misleading. “Unbeknownst to consumers, Tyson—which produces tremendous volumes of climate-warming emissions at every stage of its industrial meat production process—has no plan to achieve these goals and is taking no meaningful steps to do so,” the group wrote.

The lawsuit calls for Tyson to retract its statements and to be held accountable for violating the Consumer Protection Procedures Act.
