Tyson pledges to reach net-zero GHG emissions

Tyson pledges to reach net-zero GHG emissions

Tyson Foods has pledged to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050 across all its global operations and supply chain. The company is the first U.S.-based protein company to have its emissions reduction target approved by the Science Based Targets initiative.

The initiative is a collaboration between CDP Worldwide, World Resources Institute, World Wide Fund for Nature, and the United Nations (U.N.) Global Compact. The collaboration intends to increase corporate actions on climate by setting GHG emission reduction targets.

“Our net zero ambition is another important step in our work toward realizing our aspiration to become the most transparent and sustainable food company in the world,” said Donnie King, Tyson Foods president and CEO.

The company’s targets are aligned with the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals. The new targets came with the release of the company’s Fiscal Year 2020 Sustainability Progress report, which details how the company is delivering on its sustainability targets. The report includes three pillars Tyson has deemed essential to their core values and goals: empowering people, customers and communities; conserving natural resources and protecting our planet; and innovating smart, responsible agriculture.
