The Nez Perce Tribe of Idaho plans to help Colorado with its wolf introduction plan by supplying wolves to the state by the end of the year.

According to a local 9News report, the Tribe says they are still spiritually connected to wolves, which is part of the reason why they want to see the wolf effort succeed.

“We definitely would love to support the reintroduction into Colorado because of the species and because of the environment,” Shannon F. Wheeler, Nez Perce tribal executive committee chairman, told the media outlet. “It falls in line with who we are spiritually as people and culturally as people.”

An agreement between the Tribe and the state is still in the works, with the Tribe having submitted a draft memorandum of understanding to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Colorado asked several states to supply wolves, but Montana, Idaho and Wyoming denied the request, and Washington and Oregon are still in consideration.
