On April 2, Texas rancher Susan Combs was appointed the assistant secretary of the Department of the Interior for Fish, Wildlife, and Parks following Rhea Suh’s resignation. The Center for Biological Diversity has decried the move, likening it to “appointing an arsonist as the town fire marshal,” claiming that she had “wrested control of the state’s endangered species program from the Department of Parks and Wildlife” when she was the Texas state comptroller in 2007-2015. — WLJ
