Superior Livestock Auction hosted their Video Royale video auction live from July 31-Aug. 4 from the Winnemucca Events Complex in Winnemucca, NV. Cattle producers offered over 180,320 head of calves, yearlings and bred stock from 34 states for this auction. Cattle were sold on contract to deliver immediately through March 2024.
Regions 3/4/5/6 feeder steers were fully steady since the last test with a strong movement of yearlings across the Osage and Flint hills. The exception was lighter grazing condition steers sold $5 to as much as $10 higher. Feeder heifers from the same regions were also fully steady.
Regions 1 & 2 feeder steers and heifers were a testament to strong genetics coupled with later delivery dates, with prices higher by $5-8.
Program feeders from all regions were met with record highs of $15 to $25 premiums. Beef- dairy crosses also witnessed strong buyer demand moving out at record levels $20-30 higher than the last auction. Nebraska calves were well received from a wide buyer base. Lightweight calves were $10-15 higher and heavier weights were fully steady to $8 higher.
North Dakota and South Dakota were $10-12 higher on all weights. Calves from Wyoming and Montana also saw similar gains. Idaho weaned calves and deliveries in November and December were in strong demand weighing over 675 pounds at prices over $270.
The Charolais section saw increases of $120-140/cwt higher than last year. There were advances on all classes of calves from Nevada, Oregon,Washington and California, as well as Utah, which followed suit with strong buyer demand.
The western Angus section led the market to new levels, with400-lb. weaned calves at $400/cwt and 700-lb. weaned calves at $300/cwt. A high percentage offered at those levels were program calves with leading-edge genetic breeding programs.
The Red Angus section was also well received at $120-140/cwt higher than last year. Oregon weaned calves and calves on cows were $100-120/cwt higher than last year. Region 3/4/5/6 came with another record-setting market; the highlight was a set of 400-lb. steer calves in Oklahoma at $412/cwt. We also witnessed $10-15 higher on mid-fiveweights, and $8-12 higher on sixweight weaned calves.
