Superior Livestock Auction hosted their video auction live on Oct. 5 from the Superior Livestock Auction Studio in Hudson Oaks, TX. Cattle producers offered 29,225 head of calves, yearlings and bred stock from 25 states for this auction. Cattle were sold on contract to deliver immediately through June 2024.
Buyers were very selective on quality and feed condition with the grazing season coming to a close. Feeder steers and heifers coming off grass were $3-6 higher than the last auction, while those receiving grow rations were steady to $4 lower from all regions.
Region 1/2 weaned calves and calves on cows were in short supply but steady compared to the last auction.
Region 3/4/5/6 weaned calves were in strong demand but struggled to hold a steady market even with the good moisture received over a wide area of the wheat grazing country. Buyers were very cautious with the recent struggles in the futures market.
Beef-on-dairy crosses also saw a weaker trend with far-out live cattle futures.
Program steers and heifers were in short supply and demanded very little premium.
