Superior Livestock Auction hosted its Corn Belt Classic video auction live from the Marriott South Sioux City Riverfront in South Sioux City, NE. Cattle producers offered over 74,000 head of calves, yearlings and bred stock from 28 states for this auction. Cattle were sold on contract to deliver immediately through January 2024.
The market from this offering was extremely strong across all classes of cattle, setting the pace for a very bullish summer sale season.
Regions 3/4/5/6 feeder steers set new record highs on all weights, $8-15 higher than the last auction. Feeder heifers also shared in a strong market, moving at $10-14 higher. Regions 1 & 2 were met with buyers anxious to secure supplies of feeders coming off spring and summer grazing, at $10-20 higher.
Program steers and heifers were also in strong demand, at $20-25 higher. Beef-dairy crosses were well received by a wide base of buyers at levels $12-18 higher. Region 1 & 2 calves on cows were $50-70 higher than this time last year. Regions 3/4/5/6 weaned calves moved at levels $15-25 higher than the auction two weeks earlier, as drought areas continue to shrink and grazing demand grows, along with lower costs of feed.
