March 24, Hudson Oaks, TX

Superior Livestock Auction hosted their March 24 video auction live from the Superior Livestock Auction studio in Hudson Oaks, TX. Cattle producers offered over 21,700 head of calves, yearlings and breeding stock from 32 states for this auction. Cattle were sold on contract to deliver immediately through September 2022.

The market recap reflected what is being seen across the country right now as the market is reacting to various influences, including inflation and higher feed prices, with pressure on the front-end basis.

Region 3/4/5/6 feeder steers opened the auction on a strong note. Demand was good and steady to $3 higher than our last auction on deferred deliveries. Feeder heifers from the same regions also saw good demand for deferred deliveries at fully steady, but close deliveries were $3-5 lower. Region 1 & 2 feeders were in short supply with a weaker undertone. A total of 1,700 beef-dairy crosses were offered at $10-15 lower than the last auction. Region 1 & 2 weaned calves were in short supply but on a fully steady note in lighter weights and $5-8 lower on weights over 600 lbs. Region 3/4/5/6 weaned calves were also fully steady in lighter weights, while heavier weights showed weakness on fleshy condition calves. There was still plenty of demand for weaned calves in grazing condition.
