Superior Livestock Auction
May. 25, 2023 2 minutes read

Superior Livestock Auction hosted their May 25 video auction live from the Superior Livestock Auction Studio in Hudson Oaks, TX. Cattle producers offered over 25,000 head of calves, yearlings and bred stock from 20 states for this auction. Cattle were sold on contract to deliver immediately through June 2024.

The market opened with very strong buyer participation. Region 3/4/5/6 feeder steers saw new levels $5-7 higher on weights under 850 pounds, with heavier weights $3-4 higher. Feeder heifers followed with advances on all weights reaching new highs.

The tight supply on feeders along with strong margins on slaughter cattle clearing pen space at the feedlot sector continue to fuel record prices on feeder cattle. Region 1 & 2 feeder steers and heifers and weaned calves and calves on cows were again in short supply but were well received. Beef-dairy crosses were in good supply and found strong support at steady prices.

Region 3/4/5/6 weaned calves were well received by a strong buyer base, moving the bar higher again as continued moisture falls over a good part of the grazing region. Advances of $10-15 higher were common on all weights and classes. Calves on cows were well received, giving the indication that tightening supplies of weaned calves and stronger vaccination protocols are leading the way. Program cattle were no exception, with advances $20-30 higher than their counterparts.
