The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is proposing to list the Suckley’s cuckoo bumblebee under the Endangered Species Act. The species has a historical distribution across the West and into Canada. The last confirmed sighting in the U.S. was in Oregon in 2016, the agency said.
“The viability of this bee is highly dependent on its host bumble bee species, many of which have declined historically, and are expected to continue to do so in the near term,” USFWS said.
