USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is seeking public comment on a vaccine manufacturer looking for approval to produce a foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccine on the U.S. mainland.
The live virus of FMD is not allowed anywhere in the country except for Plum Island Animal Disease Center. The manufacturer asserts that because the vaccine would consist of a modified non-infectious and non-transmissible strain, it would not be considered live.
Public comments will be accepted until Sept. 14 and can be submitted at federalregister.gov by searching for Docket ID 85 FR 42346.
