On Oct. 19, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) confirmed a wolf depredation in southern Lassen County.
CDFW alerted the rancher that GPS data on Oct. 18 and overnight from LAS09 —a 2-year-old female—indicated the presence of a cow carcass on the rancher’s property. CDFW and USDA Wildlife Services investigated the carcass, discovering tooth scrapes and hemorrhaging indicative of wolf predation and found wolf tracks nearby.
The confirmed depredation comes on the heels of another five confirmed depredations by wolves between Aug. 17 and Sept. 15.
