Tyson has launched the Climate-Smart Beef Program, combining ranching practices with the development of an accounting framework to model greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for cattle from pasture to production.
Through the Climate-Smart Beef Program, Tyson can track beef emissions at the individual animal level and work with their feedlot partners to share the data with producers so they can continue to build on their sustainable agriculture practices. The program provides an incentive for producers who adopt climate-smart agricultural practices.
Through the Climate-Smart Beef Program, Tyson has launched Brazen Beef, the first beef product to receive USDA’s approval for a “climate-friendly” claim by demonstrating a 10% GHG reduction against the standard emissions for conventionally raised beef.
Tyson worked with the Environmental Defense Fund and The Nature Conservancy to develop the methodology for assessing nitrous oxide emissions in the value chain and information on cow-calf production practices. Tyson also worked with Adams Land and Cattle, and Deloitte to provide technical consulting on developing the program framework.
