The Ranchers-Cattlemen Action Legal Fund United Stockgrowers of America (R-CALF USA) sent a letter regarding the Federal Trade Commission’s proposal of Made in USA (MUSA) rules.
“R-CALF USA believes the codification of the FTC’s longstanding MUSA standards will highlight and clarify those standards for consumers as well as entities making MUSA claims. As such, the codification will aid in the prevention of deceptive MUSA claims on product labels,” the letter states.
The group is asking the FTC to include the terms “processed,” “fabricated,” and “packaged,” which would aid in clarifying the new standards. The letter concludes, “[R-CALF USA] appeals to the Federal Trade Commission to provide any assistance possible to correct the substantive conflicts between existing federal law and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s past, present and future meat labeling schemes.”
The comment period ended Sept. 14, 2020.
