Story Short: OR wolf moves into Sierra Nevadas

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) announced the wolf known as OR-93 had traveled farther south in California than the collared wolves that have preceded him.

The young male dispersed from Oregon’s White River pack, southeast of Mt. Hood. OR-93 passed through Modoc County in February and moved south, where CDFW tracked the wolf in Alpine County between the trans-Sierra State Highways 4 and 108. He then moved just into Mono County, hundreds of miles from the Oregon border and his original natal territory.

OR-93 is the 16th gray wolf documented to have dispersed into California, with most originating from Oregon. CDFW will continue to monitor the wolf along with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
