Carson Valley Meats has received approval from the Carson City Planning Commission for a special use permit for a processing plant in Carson City, NV.
The permit was originally granted in September but was revoked after a public noticing error was found. Local news outlet The Record-Courier reported that on Dec. 15, the commission voted to approve the permit as long as people can stand at the property line and not smell offensive odors or hear noise above 80 decibels.
If Carson Valley Meats fails to mitigate noise and odor, the permit can be revoked. The company will also be required to complete a wetland delineation report to see if the project encroaches on wetlands, and if so, the Environmental Protection Agency must give approval. The plant is planned to be made up of a 5,000 square-foot building and 5,600 square-foot loading and corral area.
On Dec. 27, Carson Valley Meats said in a Facebook post the commission’s approval had been appealed, and they are “staying positive and praying for leadership of the Carson City supervisors to understand and appreciate the very real crisis looming in the American food chain.”
