Aaron Ogren of Exeter, NE, was sentenced in mid-January to prison for 15-20 years after 200 cattle in his possession died.
Ogren initially faced 43 charges after the Fillmore County sheriff’s deputies found the dead cattle last April, but he was only sentenced on seven charges. A horse was also found dead on the property, and additional cattle later died from their conditions on the farm. Ogren also illegally sold livestock he did not own.
Fillmore County District Court Judge Vicky Johnson ruled “incarceration is necessary in order to protect the public.” Ogren is also unable to own or possess a livestock animal for 15 years from the date of conviction.
