The Montana Stockgrowers Association (MSGA) held its first rollover auction to raise funds for its appeal of the Bureau of Land Management’s decision regarding American Prairie’s grazing allotments.

The auction held on March 21 at Lewistown Livestock Auction in Lewiston, MT, was supported by 32 donors and raised more than $15,000.

In a rollover auction, the donated animal is put up for auction, purchased, re-donated and then purchased again. This is done over and over until there are no more bids to be taken. Once this process is over, the animal is then sold at auction.

Todd Olsen, of Lewistown and an MSGA board director, donated the replacement heifer. MSGA will conduct more auctions throughout the state in the coming weeks to raise funds for the MSGA Advocacy Fund.

If you cannot attend one of the rollover auctions but would like to donate, donations can be made at www.protectopenspaces.com or by calling Monty Lesh at 406-853-1523.
