The Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (GRSB) launched beef carbon footprint guidelines to allow consistency in calculating beef cattle production’s carbon footprint.
The scientific advisory council used the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations’ Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance Partnership as a guide.
The guidelines include quantifying emissions from ranch to processor and identifying the main drivers of greenhouse gas emissions in the beef cattle life cycle.
“Launching this new guideline will help create consistency in the global beef sector,” said Ruaraidh Petre, GRSB executive director. “There is growing momentum in the industry to protect and nurture the Earth’s natural resources, and having a clearer carbon footprint guideline will allow us to do this better than ever before.”
