A farm in Saskatchewan, Canada was surprised when one of its cows recently delivered triplets, and the surprise further increased when a week later, a second cow also delivered triplets.
Both sets of triplets included two heifers and one bull calf. The chances of cattle having twins is about 1 to 2 percent, but the odds of having triplets is about one in 100,000.
“I’ve been a veterinarian for over 30 years and I’ve only seen triplets a handful of times, so to have two in the same week on the same farm is almost unheard of,” Dr. John Campbell, a professor at Saskatoon’s Western College of Veterinarian Medicine, told local news outlet CTV News.
The Oberle Farm calves about 1,400 calves every year, and typically about 45 sets of twins are born. Perhaps lottery tickets are in order for the family.
